From Save Our Slopes: The Defenders of the Eastern Slopes, Timberwolf Wilderness Society, CPAWS Southern Alberta, and thousands of Albertans have all played a role in delaying the proposed clearcut of the Upper Highwood and Loomis Creek watershed.

Logging practices across Alberta’s Eastern Slopes have been shown to negatively affect native trout populations.

The Alberta Wilderness Association’s 2026 review of forestry practices documented more than 660 concerns relating to logging activities and native trout habitat.

Taken together, these findings suggest a broader pattern that deserves public attention. Logging companies operating on public land should be held to the highest environmental standards.

This Judicial Review is an opportunity to strengthen those standards and move toward ecologically based management of Alberta’s Eastern Slopes.

Healthy spawning streams and intact headwater forests are becoming increasingly rare. Now is the time to build a stronger movement to protect them.
